Remember the Time…We Broke All the Rules?

I have been a goody-two-shoes people-pleaser for most of my life. Well, it stops today. I’m shaking things up. And if you don’t like it…okay, I still want you to like it. Baby steps.

I have had so much fun co-hosting the Remember the Time Blog Hop with my blog bud Emily at The Waiting. I’ve often said I was born in the wrong generation, so anything that involves looking backwards is tops in my books. But we have both been feeling like RTT has been dominating things a bit on our respective blogs. I mean, before I started co-hosting the hop, I posted on average once a week, sometimes twice. But now I’m up to three posts a week: the Monday RTT prompt announcement, the Thursday RTT post, and then my “normal” post, usually on Tuesdays. While many bloggers are down with posting multiple times a week, I have found it doesn’t work so well for me. I feel like the blog is taking up too much of my time. I’m also perpetually worried about bugging people (which is why I make the world’s worst salesperson), and I have often wondered if my readers have started thinking, “Another freaking blog post from Kelly this week?” Like me, I know you all have lots of other things to do than read my blog. That makes me EXTREMELY grateful when you do read it, but it also makes me mindful that fewer posts with better quality may serve everyone better. I know Emily is feeling much the same way.

SO…we are changing up the rules for our beloved RTT which will allow us to still interact with all you other nostalgiaphiles (you’re welcome, Emily), but also give us our blogs back…so we have more time to write about our kids, our minivans, and Chuck E. Cheese. Starting NEXT WEEK,  the Remember the Time Blog Hop protocol will be as follows:

1. Every Thursday, Emily and I will announce the week’s prompt ALONG WITH posting our own RTT story. It’s a two-for-one deal.

2. The Linkup will then remain open until Wednesday at midnight of the following week, so you will still have the same amount of time to write your own post and share it with everyone.

3. If you ever need a refresher on the rules, you can always check the Remember the Time Guidelines over at The Waiting.

rule breaker
Oh no he di’int

THIS week, we will keep things as they have been. Which brings me to this week’s prompt: BREAKING THE RULES. We’ve all done it before, even me, Miss Goody-Two-Shoes. So tell us about a time you were a rebel without a cause, breaking all the rules…maybe even *gasp* a LAW! Then check back here or at The Waiting on Thursday to link up. The linkup will remain open until midnight on Sunday. I’m REALLY looking forward to reading your posts.

Hopefully, you won’t miss me too much on Mondays after this week. And hopefully no one ends up getting arrested after their RTT post implicates them in some unsolved crime that hasn’t reached the statute of limitations.

  1. I like the new rules! We are so much alike, in that I worry about bombarding people with ME. I post every 2 weeks as a rule, and every once in awhile back to back week. Personally, I like it that way. I feel like it gives my post time to make its rounds and not get lost in multiple other postings. Quality over Quantity is my goal. I know everyone is different, but that’s what works for me personally … so I can imagine that you needed to shift things a bit. GOOD PLAN!! And don’t worry about people following along to any changes y’all make … it’s an evolving endeavor 🙂

    1. Thanks! Hopefully the new format won’t really change much for anyone else, because we love that more and more and more people are linking up stories! And on top of wanting to maintain quality, I also have this thing called parenting I need to give some time too 🙂

  2. Please, please, oh please….no Chuck E. Cheese….I still have nightmares of those giant stuffed mechanical (bears?) chasing me, trying to stuff me into a pizza and then spitting me into that giant cage, the one with all the plastic balls where your child goes into and disappears and then you have to go into swimming through plastic balls to find him….yeah, that place. And so, yeah…I gave it some thought. I broke a few, (well ok, maybe a lot), of rules as a kid. I have a good one I can actually write about without hurting anyone. Should be fun to write – I’m excited. 🙂
