Remember the Time We Ran Out of Memories?

My daughter thinks I am very old. I know this because she tells me all.the.time.

However, I am only thirty-six. And I feel like I am running out of memories about which to write. Or maybe I really AM getting old and just can’t remember them anymore.out_of_memory

Either way, that spells disaster for the weekly Remember the Time Blog Hop that Emily of The Waiting and I have been co-hosting for months now. Luckily, we have formed a disaster preparedness task force team (which is basically me and Em chatting over Skype while she simultaneously tries to keep her daughter from climbing on top of the television and I eat my lunch in front of her. It’s very official). And we have come up with a solution that should help keep RTT fresh, fun, and a lot less like a chore…because we love the bloggers we have met through the hop, we love sharing nostalgic stories, and we secretly love posting old embarrassing pictures of ourselves. We just don’t want to do it every.single.week.

So, from this day forward, Remember the Time will officially be a MONTHLY blog hop. We will post new prompts every THIRD THURSDAY of the month (even though today is technically the fourth Thursday of January. We aren’t great rule followers. Sorry), and bloggers will have a whole four weeks to link up with us. We are hoping the forgiving time frame will allow everyone a little wiggle room to connect with fellow RTT bloggers while also giving you space to work on OTHER things you like to write about on your blogs.

For our very first prompt with our new monthly format, Emily and I have decided to hook up with Rarasaur’s Daily Post Weekly Writing Challenge. You can check the link for more details, but basically, we want you to write about one of your memories from the viewpoint of someone (or something) else. In addition to linking up with RTT (instructions below), you can also link up with the Weekly Writing Challenge by tagging it with DPchallenge and linking back to the original challenge post. Double exposure for the price of one!

I don’t have my own RTT post today, in favor of letting you know about the changes to the hop (and because I’m lazily resting on my laurels of being Freshly Pressed this week for my Superhero Keg Party post…little horn toot…about *that* big). And you’re probably tired of listening to me anyway. So I will post mine later, sometime before February 19th. That’s how long you have as well! Just make sure that when you do, you follow these steps:

1. Write your post. Remember, it can be ANYTHING about one of your memories written from the viewpoint of someone (or something) else…! Just try to stick with the whole “back in the day” vibe ;D

2. Grab this badge and place it at the bottom of your post.

You can steal me and use me as your own

3. Add your link below and come back to see all the other great posts your blogging pals have written! Comment on them and tweet and share your favorites!  You can also follow the Remember the Time Twitter account @RTTBlogHop. The link-up closes at 11:59pm EST on WEDNESDAY, FEB. 19TH, so get those links in before then.

Customers who like this blog also follow me on Facebook, Twitter (@RYouFinishedYet), and Pinterest.

  1. This. Is. Awesome. I’d say “amazeballs” like all the cool kids, but that word drives me nuts. I’m so so glad you guys are continuing because I love it and I love the theme. But yes, sometimes (lately) I haven’t been able to submit anything because I’ve been busy elsewhere and I also wouldn’t want to just give my link and not read any of the others. I’m really looking forward to being able to do this now!

    1. I’m so glad you guys are on board with the change. Because we really do love it. Hopefully the new format will allow for us all to be better hoppers! I mean, we love supporting each other, but we all have lives outside of blogging, and it get hard to realistically keep up with everything.

  2. As I just posted on Emily’s page- this is a great idea. ‘Time’ is hard to come by, these days so having a little extra to consider your prompts and participate in the RTT community is a great thing!

    1. Exactly! It was starting to feel a bit like a runaway train I was always speeding to keep up with, and I imagine others were feeling this as well. And I think Emily and I are both hoping it will allow for even more bloggers to participate!

  3. Lemme just say this again: I am sooooooo glad we are slowing down the pace of this. We need more time to devote to our BPTT (blogging preparedness task team). See, there’s an acronym. We’re official.

  4. Kelly, I commented on Emily’s (because her’s arrived in my in box first)…. but I love this idea! I love participating in RTT but feel rushed to do it each week. With a monthly prompt, it’s much more doable! Great decision, ladies!

  5. I was reminded yesterday of how forgetful I have become of old memories (does that sentence even make sense?) haha! But my sister and I somehow brought up something that reminded of us of the ridiculous days of playing Farmville on Facebook. I only had one kid, didn’t blog, didn’t do any at-home work, etc. and she wasn’t a single, full-time working mom at the time. So, somehow Farmville was something we did and she even was so obsessed at one point that she asked me to harvest for her while she was out of town. We were hooting at this memory! Still gives me the giggles.

        1. If the Farmville piece works for the RTT this month, totally link it up there. Because it would be hilarious to write about your obsession from your sister’s perspective,…all worrying about her crops while she was away. And then maybe we can shoot for a guest post in early March?? How does that sound?

        2. Its….whenever you finish your piece! Basically, we are now giving you a month to get your RTT post finished. So just post it on your blog whenever you want and link it up between now and February 19th. We will announce a new monthly prompt on February 20th.

  6. This is my first writing challenge/blog hop thingy. I hope I did it all correctly. I’m pretty excited about the theme! 😀

  7. Never fear because when you become my age, Alzheimer’s will kick in and you will be blessed with all the childhood memories that currently are tucked in the back storage locker of your mind. I think you actually found the first RTT topic that does not fit with what I’m trying to achieve with my blog stories. I will of course however enjoy the amazing posts that make it to the little blue frog thingie. You might want to turn your smart phone’s video on autopilot because there will be a lot of memories lost from the child-rearing years. It’s called stress and lack of rest. I have some years that are a total blur.
